Cinema East & Cheer Up Charlies present......HOUSE OF THE DEVIL
A Special Halloween Night Screening
8pm-11pm @ 1104 E. 6th St.
Directed by Ti West
Casually evoking the 1980s era that it is set in without ever sliding into camp, Ti West's HOUSE OF THE DEVIL captures all the best elements of the low budget indie horror of that era with absolutely none of the waste. It's lean, effective film making and made its public debut at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2009.
PLOT: In the 1980s, college student Samantha Hughes takes a strange babysitting job that coincides with a full lunar eclipse. She slowly realizes her clients harbor a terrifying secret; they plan to use her in a satanic ritual.
"Ti West’s THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL very well may be the greatest horror film of the last decade. The film is a slow-burning occult shocker, plotted with an emphasis on suspense and shot to recreate the glory days of ‘80s horror. Where some throwback films feel plastic and phony (and, at their worst, self-parodying), THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL hits the nail firmly on the head – it works."
Starring Jocelin Donahue (THE BURROWERS), Greta Gerwig (BAGHEAD, THE DISH AND THE SPOON), Dee Wallace (ET, HALLOWEEN 2007),Tom Noonan (MANHUNTER) Mary Woronov (ROCK 'N ROLL HIGH SCHOOL, EATING RAOUL), and A.J. Bowen (THE SIGNAL).
